Supported Living
Pinewood House is a specialist supported living service providing accommodation and nurse-led care for people with autism, learning disabilities, and mental ill health who require structured, regulated support to live successfully in the community.
Located in Budleigh Salterton, a coastal town in East Devon, Pinewood House offers a calm, community-based environment approximately 15 miles (24 km) south-east of Exeter. The setting is designed to support individuals transitioning from inpatient mental health or institutional care into sustainable, tenancy-based living.
This innovative housing and support service is managed and run by qualified, registered mental health nurses (RMNs) with the assistance of highly trained support workers, ensuring quality care delivered by staff with specialist training in the area of mental health.

Who We Support
Pinewood House supports adults with:
- Autism spectrum conditions
- Learning disabilities
- Mental illnesses, including enduring and complex mental health needs
- Co-existing conditions requiring nurse-led or clinically informed care
- Support needs related to daily living, emotional regulation, and community integration
Support is individually tailored, risk-assessed, and regularly reviewed to ensure it remains appropriate as people progress in their recovery and independence.
Accommodation at Pinewood House
Pinewood House comprises a small number of self-contained flats designed to balance privacy with opportunities for shared living:
- One-bedroom and two-bedroom self-contained flats
- Individual bedrooms
- Shared kitchen, living areas, and bathrooms within each flat
- A safe, structured environment suitable for supported living
Accommodation is tenancy-based, providing individuals with the rights and responsibilities associated with their own home, while benefiting from on-site support and clinical oversight.
Recovery-Focused Community Living
Pinewood House enables individuals to continue their recovery within a supportive community setting. Living in Budleigh Salterton provides access to local amenities, coastal outdoor spaces, and community resources that support wellbeing and social inclusion.

24/7 Nurse-led Support
The service operates 24/7, with dedicated staff collaborating closely with NHS Trusts, ICBs, Local Authorities, GPs and other professionals and partners to deliver comprehensive and integrated care.
Commissioning and referrals
Referrals are considered based on assessed need, compatibility, and the ability of the service to safely support the individual.
Our Model of Support
Pinewood House delivers nurse-led supported living, combining clinical expertise with person-centred social care. The service supports up to 10 individuals at any one time, typically as part of a planned transition from local inpatient mental health services into the community.

Care and support plans are developed in partnership with the individual, their family or advocate, and relevant professionals.
We will help you achieve goals that include:
Supervising you to take your medicine that has been prescribed by your doctor.
Providing you with emotional support
Facilitating communication with healthcare professionals, other agencies, family and friends.
Communicating with the Community Mental Health Team or Home Treatment Team if your mental health deteriorates
Help with maintaining your tenancy
Ensuring that your living space is safe and habitable
Budgeting and managing personal finances and benefits
Learning or developing domestic and life skills like cooking, cleaning and shopping
Connecting you with a wide range of community services
Help to access employment, training or volunteering opportunities
Reducing social isolation – help maintaining personal relationships, including keeping in touch with friends and family.
