Altair Healthcare Ltd is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in all aspects of its business operations and supply chains. Although not currently required to publish a statement under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we recognise our ethical and legal responsibility to uphold high standards of transparency, fairness, and human rights. This statement sets out our approach and the measures we have in place to mitigate the risk of modern slavery.
a. Organisational structure, business, and supply chains
Altair Healthcare Ltd is a UK-based health and social care provider delivering complex nurse-led care and support services in the community, including individuals’ own homes. Our services are provided by a multidisciplinary workforce comprising Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, and care staff, supported by a robust management and governance structure.
The organisational structure includes a Registered Manager, a Clinical Services Manager/Compliance Manager, and Care Coordinators, all of whom are responsible for operational oversight, staff recruitment, training, supervision, and quality assurance. Care is delivered directly by employed staff, with limited and controlled use of vetted agency staff where necessary to maintain service continuity.
Our supply chains are relatively short and low risk. They primarily include training providers, staffing agencies, IT and care management system providers, uniform and equipment suppliers, and professional services such as HR and payroll support. We do not outsource core service delivery on a large scale and retain direct responsibility for the quality and safety of care provided to service users.
b. Policies in relation to slavery and human trafficking
Altair Healthcare Ltd operates a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our commitment is embedded within a range of organisational policies that collectively safeguard workers, service users, and partners.
Key policies include:
- Safeguarding Adults and Children Policies, which recognise exploitation as a form of abuse
- Safer Recruitment Policy, ensuring ethical and lawful employment practices
- Whistleblowing Policy, enabling staff to raise concerns confidentially and without fear of reprisal
- Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy, promoting fair treatment and dignity at work
- Code of Conduct, setting clear expectations for professional and ethical behaviour
These policies are reviewed annually or sooner if required by changes in legislation or best practice. All policies are accessible to staff via our secure online portal, and are discussed during induction, supervision, and training sessions to ensure understanding and compliance.
c. Due diligence processes in business and supply chains
Altair Healthcare Ltd has proportionate and effective due diligence processes in place to reduce the risk of modern slavery within both our workforce and supply chains.
Recruitment and Employment Practices
We follow NHS-aligned safer recruitment standards. All staff are subject to:
- Enhanced DBS checks (where applicable)
- Right to Work in the UK verification
- Identity checks
- Employment history review and references
- English language proficiency assessment
Recruitment decisions are made by trained managers to ensure ethical recruitment and suitability for role. Staff are employed under fair contractual terms and paid in accordance with National Minimum Wage or higher.
Agency and Third-Party Assurance
Where staffing agencies are used, they are carefully selected and required to confirm compliance with employment law, safeguarding requirements, and modern slavery legislation. Agencies must provide assurance that staff are lawfully recruited, appropriately paid, and not subject to coercion or exploitation. Any agency staff work under the direct supervision and governance of Altair Healthcare Ltd.
Training and Awareness
Modern slavery awareness is incorporated into safeguarding training at induction and annual refresher stages. Staff are trained to recognise indicators of exploitation affecting both colleagues and service users and are clear on how to report concerns internally or to external authorities where necessary.
Monitoring and Governance
Senior management maintain oversight through audits, supervision, and governance reviews. Concerns related to workforce welfare, recruitment practices, or supplier conduct are escalated promptly and investigated. The whistleblowing process provides an additional safeguard for raising concerns.
Commitment to continuous improvement
Altair Healthcare Ltd is committed to continuous improvement in its approach to preventing modern slavery. We regularly review our policies, recruitment processes, and supplier relationships to ensure they remain robust, ethical, and aligned with current legislation and NHS best practice. We will continue to strengthen our controls, raise awareness, and work collaboratively with partners to ensure our services are delivered with integrity, transparency, and respect for human rights.
